Denture Relines

Reasons for Denture Relines
- Changes in Jaw Structure
- Gum Resorption
- Preventing Discomfort
- Enhancing Stability
- Preventing Bone Resorption
- Prolonging Denture Lifespan
Denture relines, a crucial aspect of denture maintenance, play an important role in ensuring optimal comfort, stability, and functionality for individuals relying on dentures for their daily activities. At Sapphire Denture in Bellingham, the dynamic collaboration between Dr. Senan Najar and our skilled denturist, Jin You, DPD, underscores a commitment to technical precision and patient-centered care in the realm of denture relines. The need for denture relines often arises due to natural changes in the jaw structure and gum tissues. Over time, the jawbone may undergo alterations, and the gums that support dentures may experience resorption. Dr. Najar, with his expertise in general and restorative dentistry, recognizes the importance of addressing these changes through the meticulous process of denture relines. Utilizing advanced techniques and digital impressions, Dr. Najar and Jin You assess the current fit of the dentures and carefully plans the reline process. This may involve adjusting the base or adding material to ensure a snug and comfortable fit that accommodates the evolving contours of the jawbone and gums. Technical precision in these adjustments is paramount, and Dr. Najar and Jin employ their experience to optimize the fit of the dentures.
Hard Relines
Complete dentures are recommended to be maintained by relining the fitting surface of your teeth. Our denturists recommend a reline when the denture is no longer staying in place well or after 1-2 years.Soft Relines
We also offer soft relines to patients who have thin gum tissue in their mouths and have had issues with hard denture bases in the past. These relines are relatively expensive, but offer patients with fragile gums a softer material in their mouth so they are able to function. Our Bellingham denture clinic recommends patients who have soft relines to have their dentures relined once every two years as the material is more porous and is able to hold onto bacteria and other debris better than hard acrylic.Temporary Liners
If you’re wearing immediate dentures, we will apply a series of temporary liners to your denture as you heal over your first year. When a temporary liner is no longer fitted, it is a good sign. This is a good indication that you have healed up to the point that the fitted surface of your denture needs a new liner. After approximately a year of temporary liners, our immediate denture patient is able to have their denture relined to have a hard acrylic base.Be in the know
